Medical Treatments Offered
PHOTOTHERAPY
Narrowband UVB or phototherapy is a non-invasive treatment using safe, specific wavelengths of light to treat conditions such as psoriasis, vitiligo, eczema and other photosensitive disorders. Treatments are especially effective for widespread disease and in patients who wish to avoid or are unable to take medications for their conditions. These are fast and effective treatments done in-office.
EXCIMER 308NM LASER
The excimer 308nm laser is a safe, non-invasive treatment used in photosensitive diseases such as psoriasis, vitiligo, and eczema. It is similar to phototherapy with narrowband UVB (see above), however, the specific wavelength of light is delivered in a hand held device that enables treatment of areas such as the scalp. It is especially effective for localized psoriasis that has been resistant to topical therapies.
PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment that uses special topical medications, called photosensitizing agents, along with specific wavelengths of light to target and destroy certain types of cells that may be causing harm to your skin. This treatment is used for conditions such as actinic keratosis (pre-skin cancers), superficial skin cancers, acne, and skin rejuvenation . It is an in-office procedure that is performed by our board certified dermatologists. The medication is applied to the skin and left to incubate for an amount of time determined by your treating physician. After an appropriate period, the area of skin being treated is exposed to a special light that then activates the medication and allows it to treat the specified area. Patients receiving this treatment must avoid sun for several days following the procedure. Ask your dermatologist for more information.
